Mary Katherine Goddard

Mary Katherine Goddard (1738–1816) was the printer of the first copy of the Declaration of Independence to include the names of the signers in January 1777. Goddard was also the editor and publisher of various Revolutionary-era colonial newspapers, an unusual occupation for a woman at the time. Goddard was appointed postmaster of Baltimore of 1775, likely making her the first woman to hold that position anywhere in America. In 1789, however, she was replaced by a male colleague despite protests by the citizens of Baltimore.

Joseph Warren

Joseph Warren (1741–1775) was a Massachusetts physician turned Revolutionary leader. Warren befriended John Adams in the 1760s and in the 1770s emerged as a vocal critic of British rule. Following the Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts) of 1774, Warren helped draft the Suffolk Resolves. In April 1775 he sent Paul Revere and William Dawes on their famous ride to warn of the impending arrival of the British. George III (1738–1820) was the king of Great Britain during the American Revolution. He assumed the throne in 1760 and led Great Britain during the last part of the French and Indian War. Joseph Brant

Joseph Brant, or Thayendanegea, (1743–1807) was the Mohawk chief who led the British-allied Iroquois during the American Revolution. Brant, at the direction of his English brother-in-law, Sir William Johnson, was educated at Moor’s Charity School for Indians in Connecticut, where he learned English and converted to the Anglican faith. Boston

Boston was a hotbed of Revolutionary activity and protest. As one of the largest cities and most important ports in the colonies, Boston was a center of political and economic activity. Many major events of the Revolution took place there, including Stamp Act protests, the Boston Massacre of 1770, and the Boston Tea Party of 1773. In 1776, the British army and loyalists evacuated Boston, leaving the city in patriot control for the rest of the war.

Philadelphia

During the Revolutionary era, Philadelphia was the site of the First and Second Continental Congresses.
