Four white police officers on trial in Los Angeles for the brutal videotaped beating of an African American man, Rodney King, received verdicts in the case. One was convicted of excessive force and the other three were cleared of all charges. The verdicts prompted three days of riots throughout Los Angeles, during which more than fifty people were killed, four thousand injured, and twelve thousand arrested.
