flappers
“Flappers” were women of the 1920s who liberated themselves from oppressive societal gender norms, pushing the boundaries of sexual freedom and expression. They cast off prim dress and organ-crushing corsets in favor of straight-waist skirts and bobbed hair. Their dress and behavior, which sometimes included drinking, dancing, and smoking, served as a demand for the end of the double standard of behavior deemed acceptable for men and women.
