James Ireland (1745–1806) was a Scottish-born Virginian who, after briefly working as a school teacher, became a well-known Baptist preacher. During the 1760s and 1770s, Ireland was among the Baptist leaders persecuted by Virginia officials, and he was imprisoned in 1769–1770 for preaching without a license.
