In 2003, JASON S. RITTER was a U.S. Army captain stationed in Afghanistan conducting patrols on a daily basis to deter enemy attacks. This letter is to Danielle, his fiancée, whom he addresses as “Zippers.” Jason and Danielle planned their wedding through a series of letters and ten-minute, every-other-week phone calls, and were married when Jason returned from this deployment.
