Canby, as Major General in command of the infantry in New Orleans, has his resignation rejected and returned to him in "the interest of the service." Made by order of the Secretary of War and signed by C.W. Foster, the Assistant Adjutant General of Volunteers. On stationery of the Headquarters, Department of the Gulf. Document is incomplete.
