Rawlins, Assistant Adjutant General under Ulysses S. Grant, writes to Hamilton, commander of the Left Wing of the Army of Tennessee. Transmits copied dispatch from General James Birdseye McPherson (not included), and instructs Hamilton: "hold one of the remaining Divisions of your Command in readiness to move at a moments notice." Docketed in pencil, apparently at a later date.
