Writes to wife, addressing her as "friend," inquiring about his parents, and why they have not written to him more than they have. Speculates that it is because he has not sent home more money and asks his wife if there is perhaps something between them and her that might explain their behavior. Asks her to tell them that, "this is not the place to make money" and details some of his expenses to her. He also requests that she "must not keep nothing back for I shal feel better than to worry about it..." Encloses 10 dollars in the letter, which he would like her to keep for herself. Also asks that she keep all the letters that he sends to her.

- The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
