A print of a photograph of the U.S.S. Hartford. Graphite inscription on recto: "U. S. S. S. [sic] Hartford. 1864. Mobile Bay." Cancelled, red five cent "playing card" stamp on verso. Three mast sailing vessel that also has a steam stack in the center of the ship. The Hartford, a first-class sloop, was the flagship of Admiral Farragut's fleet. It was painted gray to make it less visible at sea. Photographed by McPherson & Oliver.
