Rand's sword hangs from his belt. His right hand holds his hat and rests on the chair beside him. Inscription on verso: "Capt. Chas. E. Rand. Additional inscription on verso partially cut off: "For Frank Leslies h...with complim...Capt Charles..Co I 1st." The image has been painted.
