As lieutenant general, vignette profile, facing left. Imprint on recto "Lieut. Gen. U. S. Grant No. 3. Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1865, by John A. Whipple, in the Clerk's office of the District of Mass." Graphite inscription on verso "rare pose " "45-." Photographers imprint on verso: "Whipple, 96 Washington Street, Boston. These Negatives are preserved for years with great care. Photographs can be made from them like this, or enlarged to Cabinet or Life-size, finished like Oil Paintings or in the style of Crayon Drawings."
