Subject has his right arm on an arm-rest, his left hand is in his lap, and he is wearing a large ring on the left hand. Imprint on recto "J. Gurney & Son Photo, N.Y." Ink inscription on verso "D.G.Farragut vice-admiral." Photographers imprint on verso: "J. Gurney & Son 707 Broadway, N.Y. Photographic Artists." Cancelled orange two-cent tax stamp on verso.
