Notes Ewell's "crossing the mountains in consequence of Shields having done so." Also requests that General George H. Stewart and his men be returned to Jackson as soon as possible. This movement along the Shenandoah Valley was part of a larger set of maneuvers by Jackson that led to important Confederate victories.
