Wilson's regiment drills six hours a day when the cold snowy weather permits and he claims it is "the best in the brigade so far." As its officers are promoted, its position moves to the extreme left of the brigade. The area seems uninhabited except for the army. They are under Major General Doubleday, a "surly looking old fellow." They are not under Hooker now and Wilson has never seen him.
