Gillespie, State Auditor of Mississippi from 1862 to 1865, notifies the Treasurer of Attala County of the distribution of $242,185 to fulfill an act for the relief of families of soldiers. The bottom half of this document includes an auditor's receipt, dated 13 March 1865. Contains a handwritten note by J. D. Sallis, clerk of the Attala County Probate Court, and a receipt certifying that R. B. Webb, Treasurer of Attala County, has submitted bond as required by an act better to provide for the families of soldiers, passed 2 December 1863. This note is also signed by Webb. Written on Macon, Mississippi Auditor's Office stationery. A handwritten note from Webb to Gillespie, dated 8 March 1865, is attached to this document. The attached note discusses the sum indicated on Sallis' receipt. The measurements of the attached note are 12.3 x 13.2 cm.
