Received his letter yesterday morning and wrote back as soon as he could. Glad to hear he is healthy. "No news of importance here excepting a rumor that commissioners are on their way to Washington to make arrangements for peace." Asks if he believes there is any truth to the rumor. Thinks it is "almost too good to be true." Just received a letter from Horace Rifenburgh saying that the girls are "so sorry that the boys are gone." There are "no yellow girls here, they are all black as the devil and are ugly." Ephraim sends his love to you. Have only had rain once since he arrived here. No year listed, based on content and location of regiment. Written in Camp Millington
