Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Clarke begins by promising to send Livingston money very soon, and tells him of the gardening tools and seed that he has sent to Mr. Cast. He also asks that Livingston speak to a Mr. [Mayle] about being more generous in his assistance to Mr. Cast in the future, as they are in need of a great deal of help. Docketed on address leaf.
