At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

First printing by Baker & Godwin. Contains the speeches of Edward Everett and Abraham Lincoln delivered at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. "To which is added interesting reports of the dedication ceremony; descriptions of the battlefield; incidents and details of the battle, &c." Lincoln's Gettysburg address is on page 40.
