Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Notes receiving 500 pounds to pay troops. Indicates that the money is nearly exhausted and he has yet to pay some of the Minutemen. Discusses other plans related to the defense of the colonies.

Bowler had been a member of the Stamp Act Congress. Clarke was the general treasurer of Rhode Island.
