Gifford Pinchot

Gifford Pinchot (1865–1946) was an American conservationist and head of the Forestry Service from 1898 to 1910. Before joining the Forestry Service, Pinchot was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and an agent of the Secretary of the Interior. While heading the Forestry Service, he served under William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft. Pinchot worked especially closely with Roosevelt, advising the President and helping to implement conservation efforts to preserve natural resources.
