As a crusading urban reformer, conservationist and outdoorsman,
and later as President of the United States, Theodore
Roosevelt met his considerable responsibilities with characteristic
energy and passion. Throughout his career, however, T.R.
saw himself first as a husband and father: Family and
home were of the utmost importance to him. Sagamore Hill,
The Roosevelt family home at Oyster Bay, Long Island,
was T.R.'s primary residence from 1886 until his death
in 1919. These photographs, from the collection of the
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, speak to T.R.'s
devotion to family and the outdoors.
