Introducting Presidential Elections Worksheet

Aim / Essential Question
How democratic is the American election process for the office of president?

Objectives
1. Students will identify the constitutional procedure for the election of the president.
2. Students will describe the process for electing the president.
3. Students will evaluate the extent to which the process is democratic.

Motivation: Based on what students know about the current election, they should be asked to list all the things that a person has to do in order to become president.

In order to help students understand what they are being asked to do, suggest that they draw a staircase in their notebooks that can be used to illustrate the many steps that have to be taken in order to reach the high office of president.
