Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Alida Livingston acknowledges a debt to John Mitchell for beef that she bought for the garrison at Albany. Her signature was removed from the document. P.2 contains a statement signed by John Mitchell, 11 September 1711, in which he assigns payment of the bond on p.1 to Mr. Lewis Lyrion. On p.3, Jacob Thibois signs for receipt of the bond from Edward Antill, 7 November 1700. Docketed on p.3.
