2014 Calendar of the Civil War
The 2014 Calendar of the Civil War is a sixteen-month calendar that runs from September 2013 through December 2014. This year’s calendar features paintings by men who enlisted in or traveled with the military during the Civil War and photographs of men and women who figured prominently in the military, political, and social history of the period. It also provides information on important events throughout the war, such as the election of Abraham Lincoln, the secession of South Carolina, the surrender of Fort Sumter, the Battle of Antietam, the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation, the Battle of Gettysburg, Frederick Douglass’s first visit to the White House, the Gettysburg Address, General Grant’s appointment to command of all the Union armies, the Siege of Petersburg, the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment, the surrender of General Lee, and the assassination of President Lincoln.
