The Gilder Lehrman Institute sponsors history schools and affiliate schools nationwide. Gilder Lehrman history schools are rigorous, college-preparatory schools centered on American history. They have a track record of raising test scores and sending more than 90 percent of graduating seniors to college. At the core of these schools is a four-year sequence of courses in American history. In many of these schools, the entire student body participates in the Gilder Lehrman program. In other schools, a select portion of the student body participates. Click here for a list of history schools.

Affiliate schools are connected to the Institute’s nationwide network of teachers, students, and prominent historians and have access to the Institute’s rich offerings of educational materials and programs. These schools enter the annual Civil War Essay Contest, participate in National History Day, develop history clubs, and participate in other programs offered by the Institute such as professional development workshops and Junior Historians’ Forums. Click here for a list of affiliate schools.
