The Great Sioux Reservation was the region reserved for the Lakota Indians between 1868 and 1889. The reservation was established by the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868, which set that region of the Dakota Territory aside for the Sioux, provided them hunting rights to the west of the reservation, and prohibited white settlement in the Black Hills.
