Henry Louis Gates, Jr. talks about Stony the Road: Reconstruction, White Supremacy, and the Rise of Jim Crow

 

We invite you to join us on Friday, May 31 for an exclusive book talk and book signing with Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University.

 

Professor Gates will discuss his new book, Stony the Road: Reconstruction, White Supremacy, and the Rise of Jim Crow and his new documentary film, Reconstruction: America after the Civil WarStony the Road is a profound new rendering of the struggle by African-Americans for equality after the Civil War. Reconstruction is a documentary that premieres on PBS in early April this year and explores the transformative years following the American Civil War, when the nation struggled to rebuild itself in the face of profound loss, massive destruction, and revolutionary social change.
