Authorization for the cancellation of a mortgage of land from the estate of the late Thomas Flucker. Witnessed by Isaac and Samuel Winslow. Noted as "Signed, Sealed and delivered in the presence of" Henry Jackson who has also signed. Authorized by Samuel Cooper, who has signed twice as justice of the peace, 17 October 1793. Also noted and signed as received and entered into the records by William Webber at Hancock Island on 6 October 1794 and Thomas Price at Lincoln Island on 22 October 1794.

Reports on various issues Joseph Peirce was handling and mentions several deeds. Makes reference to the proprietors buying 9,000 acres, more than of which is occupied by squatters. Also states Peirce is to pay the £25 tax to the Hancock County Sheriff.

References Knox's letter of 29 October. Is pleased with accounts of the yellow fever abating in Philadelphia. Hears "the inhabitants are returning with great confidence that all danger of taking it, is at an end." Makes reference to the logistics of Knox's house (Montpelier) being built in Maine. Mentions Madame de Leval is in Boston to see William Bingham about "some change or an accommodation in her last agreement." Hopes Bingham will make no changes until he has received the report of Mr. Peter's survey. Wants Knox to warn Bingham.

References receiving two of Lucy's letters. Has enclosed a letter for Henry Jackson Knox (not included). Does not have a complaint about her leaving on Wednesday, just wants her to be happy and comfortable. Does not believe it prudent to go into Philadelphia until 25 November. Says there has been rain the past two days and unseasonable warm weather today. Notes "Some people who have lately gone into the city have fallen sacrifices either to their own imprudence or to the malignancy of the disorder." Has directed their house to be well aired.

Title: to Henry Knox

Wanted to transmit "The Brigadiers plan" in the mail, but it could not be folded small enough to be sent. Says the plan is on a coarse paper and is about 3.5 feet by 3 feet and "I conceive the plan by which a division was first made with the original proprietors - the patent is made to extend to a small point opposite Long Island, then back into the country 30 miles." Will send the plan to Boston, Massachusetts where it will be shipped by water. Postscript asks that Knox send his servant to John Fenno so he can get a subscription to the Gazette of the United States.

Will see Isaac Winslow respecting the deed Knox mentioned. "Free" handwritten on address leaf with no signature.

Encloses a letter for Major Sargent. Asks Knox to deliver it. The letter asks Sargent to convey to her a deed for the lands she purchased through the Ohio Company. Sargent was holding her land in trust, which the company's directors did for "all the Lands belonging to Persons under his Agency." Believes it is proper for Sargent to re-convey the lands before he departs for the Western Territory, as soldiers often are exposed to "Accidents." Goes into the details of what she needs. Postscript says her eldest son sends his regards.

Writes his mason regarding the construction of his house (his future estate, Montpelier, in Maine). Requests Mr. [Henry] Simpson to provide General [Henry] Jackson with an estimate of the supplies that will be needed. Reminds him he wants a well built house, but also desires it to be plain and not made of expensive carvings or ornaments. Informs Mr. Simpson he will not be present during the beginning of construction and is relying on his expertise and reputation. Allows for him to choose which workmen to hire but insists all agreements are made in writing.

A receipt of $800 for an enclosed contract. Contract and money was delivered by Henry Jackson on behalf of Henry Knox to Ebenezer Dunton and Tileston Cushing. The document is marked as a copy. Another date was added in pencil of 17 April 1794. The original document was signed by Ebenezer Dunton, Tileston Cushing, and by Henry Knox's attorney, Henry Jackson.

Title: [Indenture contract]

An indenture contract made between Henry Knox, Henry Simpson Jr., and James Hearsey. Mr. Simpson and Mr. Hearsey agree to perform the masonry work at St. George's [House] (Montpelier) in "Thomas Town" (present day Thomaston), Maine for Henry Knox. The contract includes specific instructions on materials, design, and the dimensions of the rooms, specifically the basement. Mr. Simpson and Mr. Hearsey are instructed to contact Mr. Thomas Vose for materials and daily instructions. A detail list of wages for various phases of the work is provided.

Agreement between Knox and "the twenty associates" represented by Charles Barrett regarding lands in the Waldo patent. Establishes the boundaries of the lands owned by the associates, and lists other rules reragding this property. The twenty associates were the group that initially owned the Waldo patent, with Samuel Waldo being a member. Also signed by Charless Barrett, David Cobb, John Wills and Thomas Cobb.

Discusses a petition filed against Knox involving some property. Mentions a conversation he had with Waterman Thomas of Waldoboro, Maine who supports the petition. Reports Thomas says, "The people who have paid the full amount of their engagement to your agent can get no Deeds & they have no security - for if you should die…" Comments he will call on Judge Sullivan (possibly James or John Sullivan) for assistance.

Also notes the settlers have issues with some of Knox's agents.
