Zenger, John P. (1697-1746)
Title: New-York weekly journal. [Vol. 932, no. 51 (October 21, 1734)]
Contains an account of a meeting at Court, in London, between King George II, Queen Caroline, and Tomo Chachi, Indian king of the Creek Nation. News from The Hague reports on a battle fought between the French and Italian under the commands of Marshal de Coigny and Count Merci. The battle was fought during the War of the Polish Succession. Includes an editorial in which the writer defends Zenger and his correspondents. The writer argues that the Governor (Willian Cosby) falsley accuses Zenger and others of libel and of being enemies of the government, simply because they are not "creatures of a governor." The editorial is continued in the next issue. In addition to the editorials, the journal also includes a section for New York news, entires and departures of the New York Customs house, and advertisements. There is no designated foreign affairs section.
