Title: to Robert Livingston re: discovery of Samuel Vetch's abandoned ship

Watts writes of the suppositions surrounding Samuel Vetch's ship, still laden with its cargo of spirits and furs. Capt. Vetch's journal of the excursion, along with his papers (receipts for the illicit goods and the like), were discovered aboard the abandoned ship, and it is presumed that some of the cargo had been previously off-loaded (adding to hopes of Vetch's survival). Campbell sends the account of Lt. Governor Nanfan pertaining to Samuel Vetch's abandoned ship, in which it claimed contraband items (18 casks of brands, beaver skins, scarlet cloth) were found on board. He says "wee all Long to heare what is become of Capt. Vetch," adding to the mystery of the ship's grounding.

Invoice for merchandise including dishes, textiles, and clothing. On p.4 there begins a second invoice of the same date for "Two Trunks and Four Bales of Merchandise" including feather caps, animal skins, and fabrics.

. . . shipped by James Douglas mercht in London On Board the Dove JohnWilde Master bound for New York." Both James Douglas and Robert Livingston were responsible for shipping the goods, however, Douglas appears to have drawn up the document. Invoice accounts for bales, trunks, and cases of various fabrics and textiles such as cotton and beaver skins.

Douglas acknowledges that Philip sold his blankets and duffels, and explains that since he has not yet received any returns from the sale, he has taken the liberty of withdrawing money from John Borland on Philip's account. He therefore requests that Philip simply make the needed payment to Borland. Douglas also writes that Margaret Vetch disagrees with a bill that Philip sent her, and refers Philip to Borland once again for the price of furs and flour. Docketed on address leaf.

Cuyler desires Philip to ask Stephanis Groesbeen if he is able to send down the 3 packs of good beaver he requested. If Groesbeen is not able to, Cuyler asks Philip to procure them himself and send them quickly. Philip writes in a note at the bottom of the letter, dated 25 May 1714, that he sent down 2 packs of beaver. Docketed on address leaf.

Title: Answer to the propositions of the 5 Nations

Governor Hunter begins by recalling the war against the French of Canada, and states the importance of upholding the "hatchet" of mutual defense between the English and the 5 Nations. In response to the Indians' complaints of the high price of goods and low value of furs, Hunter explains that the forces of supply and demand are responsible for determining these values. As a final issue, Hunter asks the 5 Nations to act upon the agreement of mutual defense and pursue the Flatheads of Carolina, who are accused of butchering English settlers without reason.
