Title: Republican Herald--Extra. Governor Morton's Letter.

An extra from a Rhode Island newspaper, published by Simons, that prints a letter from the former governor of Massachusetts, Marcus Morton. Morton declares that the circumstances in Rhode Island (relating to the Dorr Rebellion) are of national concern. States the Whig Government almost unanimously supports the old Charter government and the Democratic newspapers support the new Constitution. Although he asserts his neutrality, the letter clearly sides with Dorr and his supporters.

Title: Humanity's last appeal to the abolitionists of the United States, against the increase of slave territory

Urges Northerners to vote for the Whig ticket, and oppose the Democrats, who favor the annexation of Texas. Argues that annexation is planned only to increase slavery and the power of the slave states. Texas is large and suitable for slavery and thus annexing it "would encircle Africa with slave-ships, and under the stimulus of insatiable avarice, penetrate farther into the interior of the devoted country." Annexation would also lead to war with Mexico.

Prints the address of John Young as Chairman, with Resolutions, calling upon people to guard against "all the Roman Catholic countries on Earth which are sending their millions of offcasts and vagabonds...to take from us the Liberties we now enjoy."
