We the Subscriber Being the Major part of the Joint Commiittee appointed by the Senate and insurance of the Act "act for Regulating Elections" to Canvas and Estimate the Votes takin [sic] at the last Election Senators, having met, for that purpose at the Office of the Secretary of this State last Tuesday May last, and there on that day on the three next succeeding [illegible] and estimated the notes taken for Senator at the said last Election Do upon the laid Canvas and Estimate determined to Declare and hereby certify that Samuel Townsend James Duane and John Lawrence were severely and respectively by the [illegible] number of Votes at the said Election it the Southern District of this State Chosen Senators in the said Southern District and the Jacobus [illegible] Anthony Hoffman was severely were severely and respectively by the Greatest number of Votes st the said election in the middle District and that Folles Fonda was by the Greatest number of Votes
at the said Election in the western District of this State chosen a Senator in the said western District we als upon [struck] the said the Canvas and Estimate determine and declare and hereby and certify that the said Samuel Townsend was by the greatest number of States at the Said Election in the said Southern District after deducting them
Given for him for a senator in the room of Alexender Mc Dougall deceased Chosen a Senator to Serve for four Years And by the Greatest number of of votes tahiro [illegible] that Purpose ar the said Samuel Townsend is also Elected a Senator in the Room of the Said Alexender Mc Dougall deceased
Given under our hand at the said [illegible] of the Secretary of this State in the City of New York the licon day of June in the Eleventh Year of the independence of this State amd the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven ---
