Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Title continues, "The Standard Historical Guide Book on 'Gettysburg' with Numerous Maps and Illustrations." Covers battle plans and marches, various headquarters, and details of the three days' battle. Describes the Soldiers' National Cemetery and includes a roster of the Union and Confederate armies. Lists casualty statistics from each regiment, monuments, markers, and tablets surrounding Gettysburg. Reminiscences in poetry and prose.
