States he has heard of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's surrender under the same terms as Robert E. Lee's surrender and wants to prevent further unnecessary bloodshed. Requests some additions be made to the surrender terms presented by Canby in an earlier memorandum. These concern additional troops that should be included in the surrender and the transportation of the soldiers after the surrender. Retained clerical copy.
Taylor officially surrendered to Canby on 4 May 1865 at Citronelle, Alabama.
