At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

You being chosen a senator by a Majority of Voters in the County of Plimouth for this Commonwealh of Massachusetts summoned to attend and assist at a General Court to be begun and holden at the State House n Boston on Wednesday the Twenty eighth of the present May, at Nine o'Clock A.M. You will therefore give your Attendance, that there may be a due Convention of Senators on the Said Day.
Given pursuant to the Constitution of Government of the Commonwealth aforesaid, at the Council Chamber in Boston the Twelfth ---- Day of May, in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty eight and in the Twelfth Year of the Independence of the United States of America.
