Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Numbered "No. 108" on recto and "N. 88" on verso. The Czar recommends replacing Lieutenant General Anfediel with Lieutenant General Shlipenbah (possibly Wolmar Anton von Schileppenbach). Discusses political and military strategies against Sweden.

In 1700, Peter instigated the Great Northern War (1700-1721) with Sweden to regain access to the Baltic Sea. Wolmar Anton von Schlippenbach was Governor General of Swedish Estonia from 1704 to 1706.
