Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Countersigned as a witness by George Raymond. Certifies that he agrees to sell John Lovett half a share of the prizes from the privateer ship the Pilgrim, commanded by Hugh Hill. Confirms that Lovett paid to him $300 upon delivery. Reverse has a note about the account signed by Lovett. Lovett was a privateer ship merchant and captain in Beverly, Massachusetts. He served as the agent for the Pilgrim's prizes.
