Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

States that the public building raised by General Henry Knox by Mr. John Ellison, which is now occupied by Joseph King, is the only building that can be adapted to hold a court martial. The large room will be for the court and the two smaller rooms will be for Edwards' accommodations. Addressed to Lieutenant Thomas Edwards, Judge Advocate.
