Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

General Abraham Ten Broeck's orders signed by Lansing as Major Brigade. States that since the enemy is in the northern and western frontier, it is necessary for part of the brigade to take action. Informs that the General has ordered one eighth of the regiments commanded by Colonel W. Crea and Colonel Stephen Schenfer to march to Fort Edward. One eight of Colonel Jacobus Van Schoonhoven and Colonel Van Wort's regiments will march to Palmer Town commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Cornelius Von Verhten. Instructs that the regiments should be armed with enough ammunition and provisions to survive for 14 days from when they reach their post. The field officers will meet General Brooks on the second Tuesday in June at the House of Abraham Bloodgood in Albany, New York.

Jeremiah Lansingh served as an officer during the Revolution, and later as a State Assemblyman from Albany.
