Translation reads: "In consequence of the orders of the Count D'Estaing, the ship Provence will send to the Protector Ship 'Canot' which from the fleet at 'Bombs of Thunder' or else the one which was sent by the General to him." Written on board the Languedoc. Numbered "No. 73."
Jean Charles de Borda was a French naval officer during the American Revolution. He was also a mariner and a scientist.
Jean Baptiste Charles Henri Hector, Comte d'Estaing, was a French Vice Admiral sent with twelve battleships and fourteen frigates to assist the colonies during the American Revolution. Also the Marquis de Saillans.

Following the orders of the Count of Estaing the ship the Provence will bring to the ship the protector Le Canot, which comes from the Galiote to the Bombs of Thunder, or rather the one to which it was sent by the general.
