Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Date is written in Old Style/New Style: 1747/1748. Muster roll for 61 days between December 25, 1747 and February 23, 1748. List of names and whereabouts of Officers and Private Men in Captain John Gorham's Independent Commission of Rangers, "raised for the defense of his Majesty's Garrison of Annapolis Royall & Province of Nova Scotia". John Gorham listed as Captain, Joseph Gorham and William Boum as Lieutenants, and Matthew Winniett as Ensign. Cosigned by Lieutenant Joseph Gorham.
