Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Order of Rhode Island state legislature to pay Isaacs and Levy four hundred ninety pounds six schillings two pence out of the general treasury. Signed by Ward as the Secretary and Witness. Signed on verso three times by Isaacs and twice by Levy.

Moses Levy was a Jewish businessman from Newport, Rhode Island.
