Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Franks requests twenty two pounds sixteen schillings for his service to New York State. Grenell certifies that Franks worked the amount that he claims, and signs as well. Bill written to "The Commiss.r for procuring cloathing &c. for the State of New York." Verso signed by Ezra L'Hommedieu.

Ezra L'Hommedieu was a New York delegate to the Continental Congress from 1779-1783.
John Grenell was a Captain during the American Revolution.
