Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by four officers of the 4th infantry regiment Baen belonged to. Lists effects of the deceased Baen and the amount for which each item was sold. Endorsement on verso signed by Bruce certifying that J. L. Eastman and R. B. Brown of the 4th U. S. regiment took an oath that the assessment of Baen's property was done to the best of their knowledge.
