At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Certifies payment to Augustine Stevenson for his service as a member of the New Jersey Committee of Safety.

Hart was a member of the New Jersey Provincial Congress from 23 May 1775, to 22 June 1776. He was also a member of the Continental Congress from New Jersey in 1776 and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
