States that he believes Ezra L'hommedieu, a fellow Federalist, is the best candidate for Congress as he will be able to unite the Federalists in the district. Asks Dongan to have a meeting of the most influential Federalists of the county as soon as possible to make a nomination. Addressed to Dongan, Staten Island.

Signer of the U.S. Constitution.
Dongan was an attorney on Staten Island.

My Dear Sir
I doubt not you will agree with me in opinion that Mr. L hommedieu is the most proper character to be supported for the representative of your district in Congress as being the most likely to unite the Suffrages of the Federalist, throughout the district. Will it not be very desirable that there should be without delay a meeting of the most influential Federalists of your County to make a nomination? I think it will have a very good effect & is even indispensable. Pray [2] My Dear Sir, Do not let us be inactive on this occasion - And of all things let us avoid a division between men. L hommedieu will - [struck: be], I am persuaded, be held up in the other Counties.
