Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

"Banquet given by Messrs. Ludw. Loewe & Co. in honor of the American Mechanical and Civil Engineering Associations." The list of food and drinks being served at the Banquet is in French. Along with several colored engravings there is a small photograph on the inside cover of the menu of a water-side location. A couple of signs in the photograph are in German.
