Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

States that due to the termination of the charter of the First Bank of United States, no payments can legally be made. Advises him to inform the officers of the Union Bank about this. Austin was Commissioner of Loans, Boston. Signed as Secretary of Treasury. With another clipped signature of Gallatin adhered to the left of signature.
