Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox that he is looking for a Boston distributor for medicine made by a Mr. Norton, a surgeon from Golden Square, London. He proposes the same arrangements for medicine distribution Knox has with New York printer, James Rivington, who recommended Knox for the job (GLC02437.00159). Morewood desires constant advertisements be placed in Boston newspapers. Underneath Dr. Morewood's signature, he is identified as a "Surgeon at Mr. Rivington's."
