To his brother, writes, "It is so long a time since I've had the pleasure of a Line from you that did I not hear it from others I should suppose that you had paid Natures last tribute..."

[draft]
Morris Town 20 May 1777
My Dear Brother
It is so long a time since I've had the pleasure of a Line from you that did I not hear it from others I should suppose that you had paid Natures last tribute
- what in the name of fraternal affection can you mean? is your going to Providence with the Company you belong to and kickerabooing with the Girls there a sufficient excuse do you think? a sufficient balance to all affection and attention? Capt Spekeman tells me he call'd on you and you made some trifling excuse what I know not - trust me my dear Brother (if I do not receive a Letter from you by the next post) if you hear from me again for three or four months -

I am Sir Your Hble Serv
